Tim Burton’s This Is Halloween
This Is Halloween, a stone cold Halloween classic, is song from the 1993 animated musical fantasy film “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton (you can see more on this in our Top 10 Halloween Films blog post. The film was a collaboration between Tim Burton’s distinctive visual style and the creative storytelling of director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. “This Is Halloween” serves as the opening song for the film and sets the tone for its unique blend of dark fantasy and bonkers fun elements that are perfect for Halloween.
It was composed by Danny Elfman, who also provided the singing voice for the film’s main character, Jack Skellington. In the film, Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town.

Whistling Past the Graveyard” is as recorded by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, an American bluesman and musician known for his flamboyant, and quite frankly – bananas, stage presence and unique blend of blues, R&B, and rock ‘n’ roll. The song “Whistling Past the Graveyard” was released in 1972 as a single and is also included on Hawkins’ album “The Feast of the Mau Mau,” released the same year. The song was originally written by Tom Waits and appeared on his album Blue Valentine. We like Screamin’ Jay for Halloween better though…you can see in the picture below the video why, an absolute divil for Halloween Costumes he was!

Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Junior
If there is something strange in your neighbourhood it will be that someone doesn’t love this stone cold Halloween and film classic. The only way to deal with them is…well…who you gonna call?? Ghostbusters!
In 1984, Ray Parker Jr. wrote and performed the song for the film “Ghostbusters,” starring the magic Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. The song, also titled “Ghostbusters,” became a massive hit and reached the top of the charts from here to Halloween-hell. Its catchy chorus and memorable melody made it an instant classic, and the song will always fill the dance floor or graveyard!
Despite his musical success though, Ray Parker Jr. faced legal issues related to “Ghostbusters.” The song’s resemblance to the 1981 Huey Lewis and the News song “I Want a New Drug” led to a copyright infringement lawsuit, which was settled out of court. Have a listen and see what you think!
